Chatini Pomme D'amour
Difficulty level: Easy
Jump to recipe

When I searched the English translation of this via Google Translate it came up as ‘candy apple’ which is not at all what this recipe is. In fact, chatini pomme d’amour is a Mauritian spicy tomato chutney or salsa, and Mauritians serve with a lot of different dishes such as di pain frire, bol divere, curries and a lot of meat and rice dishes.

It is usually served as a condiment adding a fresh and vibrant contrast to a lot of savoury Mauritian recipes. Some serve it chunky but it can also be can be blended into a sauce consistency. Chatini pomme d’amour cuts through the fattiness and adds a vibrant and fresh contrast.

As this recipe use whole raw chillies, I recommend that you start with ½ chilli and add more as you go.

This can be made ahead of time and can last up to 3 days in the fridge in an airtight container.
